OUR MISSION
APPLE ARTS is dedicated to encouraging underprivileged children through the use of
art. Our program promotes creativity, individualism and self-exploration while at the
same time providing an educational atmosphere for learning, social development, and a
consistent curriculum. Through the arts we hope to inspire young people to believe that
they can achieve their goals despite any obstacle or disadvantage.
OUR AUDIENCE
APPLE ARTS will serve underprivileged children residing in Huntington House, a unique
residence where homeless women who have criminal justice involvement can reunify
with their children. Approximately 70 kids come through Huntington House a year. Over
a course of time, Apple Arts plans on expanding to other homeless shelters, transitional
residences, and housing projects within New York City. Currently, there are over 33,000
homeless men, women and children sleeping each night in the NYC shelter system, over
13,000 of which are children.
OUR PROGRAM
APPLE ARTS challenges children to connect with a program that is both entertaining
and educational. The program will meet with children at least twice a month to work on
creative projects that will last over the course of several weeks and as longs as several
months. The program will incorporate a variety of skills throughout the duration of the
project to stimulate a range of creative outlets including: drawing, painting, sculpting,
crafts, reading, writing, and photography. Each project will be celebrated upon
completion to reward their responsibility toward commitment.
OUR NEED
APPLE ARTS needs your help and financial support! By offering a diverse range of art
projects we need a variety of different materials for each class. We will also offer the
children healthy and nutritious snacks to be purchased for each session. Apple Arts has
no central office so all officer and board meetings are held where space is available.
Many of our start up needs have been donated or generously supplied by the board
members, but such necessary and immediate expenses as insurance, letterhead,
postage, and other equipment and office supplies need to be purchased. Any
contribution will be much appreciated, no matter how big or small. A standard box of
Crayola crayons 24 pack costs as little as $2.49.
